For the eighth time in the last ten years, Decorah High School has won the Class 3-A Challenge Cup, an award that measures success of students in academics, fine arts and athletics in comparison to other schools throughout the state.
The award is for the 2016-2017 academic year. Decorah High School scored 1305 points, with 700 of those points coming from academic achievement, an all time high for the school.
The competition, sponsored by the Iowa High School Sports Network and Bank Iowa, is a statewide scoring system based on the performances of students in competition, on the stage and in the classroom. Points are assigned for every activity in which a school reaches a state competition, advances in a state competition, receives division I ratings and earns academic recognition from either the IHSAA, IGHSAU, IHSSA, and IHSMA.
